Your Dictionary by XTC

H-A-T-E
Is that how you spell love in your dictionary
K-I-C-K
Pronounced as kind
F-U-C-K
Is that how you spell friend in your dictionary
Black on black
A guidebook for the blind

Well now that I can see my eyes won’t weep
Now that I can hear your song sounds cheap
Now that I can talk all your corn I’ll reap
I’m not so sure that Joey wed a Virgin Mary
There are no words for me inside your dictionary

S-L-A-P
Is that how you spell kiss in your dictionary
C-O-L-D
Pronounced as care
S-H-I-T
Is that how you spelt me in your dictionary
Four-eyed fool
You led ’round everywhere

Now that I can see it’s the queens new clothes
Now that I can hear all your poison prose
Now that I can talk with my tongue unfroze
I’m not so sure of Santa or the buck-tooth fairy
There are no words for me inside your dictionary

Now your laughter has a hollow ring
But the hollow ring has no finger in
So let’s close the book and let the day begin
And our marriage be undone

I came across this song listening to XTC today. Man, I love these guys. They’re pop. But smart. Smart pop? I know, weird.

Below you’ll find my favorite song by XTC, Dear God. If you haven’t heard it yet, here’s your opportunity! If you have heard it, check out the trippie music video. I’m not sure I get it, but the kid singing in the beginning and end is bone-chilling.

Enjoy.

    (@ the video)Very freaky.

    And very you, haha.

(@ the lyrics, which i listen to because… it’s me and I wanted to haha)
Nifty permise… but some of the lyrics seem reallllllllly forced to make the rhyme, to me. Maybe I just don’t get it, but…

I’m not so sure that Joey wed a Virgin Mary

I’m not so sure of Santa or the buck-tooth fairy

Those two just seem like they’re kinda there for the sake of making a rhyme hehe. Maybe I can get somethign from the first, but the second is just realllly forced.

Oh, here’s a simply awesome song I’ve heard on the radio lately.

    Shinedown – Heroes

Stare in wonder, who’s here to bring you down?
Find your martyr, I’m sure you’ve made the crown
So light a fire under my bones, so when
I die for you, at least I’ll die alone

Ain’t nothing for me to end up like this
There’s no comparing me this time

All my heroes have now become ghosts
Sold their sorrow to the ones who paid the most
All my heroes are dead and gone
But down inside of me, they still live on

Dark devotion in a vacant* paradise
Shows no emotion to a willing sacrifice
You can put a man on trial, but you can’t make the guilty pay
And you can cage an animal, but you can’t take away the rage

Ain’t nothing for me to end up like this
There’s no comparing me this time

All my heroes have now become ghosts
Sold their sorrow to the ones who paid the most
All my heroes are dead and gone
But down inside of me, they still live on

All my heroes have now become ghosts
Sold their sorrow to the ones who paid the most
All my heroes are dead and gone
But down inside of me, they still live on

    They’re all dead and gone

(( * — I think it says vacant, but it’s really hard to tell))
