More than 30 die in tragedy…

April 16, 2007

At least 400 000 people have died in the Darfur region of Sudan in the past three years. If you do the math, that’s over 300 people PER DAY.

Wake UP, CNN.

I don’t want to cheapen what’s happened. It is horrible. Those people didn’t need to die.

But neither do the people in Darfur. I don’t understand the news media [I won’t go as far as to say I don’t understand the American Public, because I don’t trust the news to show me the real American public]. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

One woman on life support dies, the entire country watches. An entire country is embroiled in a needless war, the country returns to their regularly scheduled programming.

I won’t pretend I’m not complicit. I haven’t gone to Iraq, to Sudan, to Russia, China, or any other places where humanitarian aid should, no must, make a difference. But I’d like to pretend I’m a little bit more lucid. That maybe I can see, from the outside, that this is insane.

When will humanity unite beyond country lines?

Oh yeah, and God bless America.
