Voluntary Human Extinction? Interesting…

September 12, 2007

I found this little organization calling for the voluntary extinction of Homo sapiens.

Hm, that’s an interesting ploy. They want all of humanity to stop breeding [completely] as to rid the Earth of the scourge we have wrought upon Her. Well, those are my words, not theirs.

It just seems like such a silly idea. Evolution has been working for how long to get to something that’s even self-aware? And they think the best thing we can do for Mother Nature is go ‘nannie, nannie, boo, boo!’ in her face?

Sure, if we killed ourselves off, evolution would eventually replace us. But how long would it take for chimpanzees, dolphins, or even mice to reach our level of cognitive sophistication? And how long after that until they start blowing each other up with technology they discover with their new-found cognitive abilities?

Romanticizing nature doesn’t seem like the best plan of action to save the planet. As if it really needs saving.

Because it doesn’t. We’ll live or die. But the earth will go on.

So why force the dying issue?

Meh… yeah, that’s dumb. Just let nature take care of us… as I’m sure it will eventually.
